Nonprofit Donor Retention Strategies That Actually Work (Yes, Really)

August 2025 Newsletter

Hey Reader

August is that sneaky month where summer’s still here, but you can just feel fall creeping around the corner. Vacations are wrapping up, school buses are making their annual comeback, and suddenly, pumpkin-spiced everything is creeping into the grocery stores.

It’s a good reminder that in the nonprofit world, just like in life, staying top of mind is everything.

Think about it, relationships aren’t built on one grand gesture. You wouldn’t text a friend only once a year and expect them to help you move a couch. (Unless they’re a really, really good friend.) The same goes for your donors.

If you want supporters to stick around, you’ve got to nurture the relationship after the first gift. That’s where a solid donor retention strategy comes in. Not the “we’ll send them a thank-you and call it a day” kind, the kind that actually works, builds trust, and keeps donors excited to be part of your mission.

Our latest article, How to Build a Nonprofit Donor Retention Strategy That Actually Works, breaks down exactly how to do that—without boring your donors or your team to tears.

June 2025 Newsletter Hey Reader First off—Happy Pride! 🌈 While celebrating with family and friends this past weekend, it was pure joy to see LGBTQ+ folks living their truth, hand in hand with allies, dancing toddlers and Drag Queens included. (Seriously, the vibes were immaculate.) In the spirit of celebration and gratitude, many nonprofits took this opportunity to host special events for their major donors—a powerful reminder that relationships fuel missions. ✨ Here’s the thing: thoughtful...

May 2025 Newsletter Hey Reader Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how powerful marketing really is—and how a strong brand can shape our decisions more than we realize. Take the movie Sinners (highly recommend, by the way). I walked in not knowing a thing about the plot, but I showed up because of one name: Ryan Coogler. His reputation—and the buzzworthy marketing—had already convinced me it was worth watching. Then I stumbled on another example: Chinese manufacturers posting TikToks...

February 2025 Newsletter Hey Reader As we kick off February, I wanted to wish you a Happy Black History Month and congratulate you for making it through the year that was January. The last few weeks have been tough with federal executive orders attempting to freeze billions in funding that would affect nonprofits, companies scaling back their DEI efforts, and the usual January blues. To help support our nonprofit friends, we wrote an article that provides strategies for how nonprofits can...
